The James Christian “Obstacles” is a Sterling silver buckle embellished with multi colored 14k and 18k gold as well as platinum. This piece also features blue, white, and cognac diamonds and a yellow sapphire. This piece is entirely hand made by the collection’s creator, James Christian.
The James Christian piece known as “Obstacles” is described by James as "I originally wanted to make the buckle showing the obstacles we encounter in life. The seven deadly sins was also an idea, but didn't resonate with me. The buckle has symbols for mental health, suicide, luck, gluttony, death, money, cancer, opium, nicotine, alcohol, and sexuality. When it came to the background, I knew I didn't want it plain, and I wanted a way to add more meaning. The lines in the background are the lines in my hand. Head, health, life, heart, and fate are represented in rose, green, and yellow gold. The other lines are engraved by hand."
James describes this buckle as follows "Throughout life we are all trying to find our way whether its new jobs, new cities, mixed families, etc. I've found where I fit in, but not everyone feels that way, or is that fortunate. The buckle has a Sterling Silver base, I applied the mulyi- colored golds and platinum in a Jackson Pollock/Joan Miro style, as though the geometric pices were dropped and flung onto the buckle. It was a little more work then that, however that was the general idea! The buckle is finished with blue and yellow diamonds as well as yellow sapphires. In the center of the large splotch in the lower right hand corner is a rare, natural, fancy pink diamond.
The James Christian “Seesaw” is a Sterling silver buckle embellished with an 18K Yellow Gold flat wire edge, 18K Spring Green Gold on the bottom, Antiqued silver on top with a stippled background and featured in the center are two 18K Yellow Gold JC jesters on a platinum seesaw with a yellow diamond on one side and a blue diamond on the other that are set in 18K yellow gold. Then for the apex of the seesaw we have half carat fine trillion diamond also set in 18K yellow gold. This piece is entirely hand made by the collection’s creator, James Christian.
The James Christian piece known as “The Seesaw” is described by James as a metaphor for life with its ups and downs through time. Whether its things such as family or business, you are always moving from one side of the Seesaw to the other as you’re often teetering between the highs and lows that naturally occur. The openings at the top and the bottom are to show that there are limitless highs and lows that you can reach through hard work or hardship.
Part of the James Christian Collection, ”One Moment” features 18k yellow gold characters, jester motifs, and bezels for its two blue and two yellow diamonds. A harlequin-pattern 14k gold border surrounds the darkened and layer-engraved sterling silver face, adding dimensions of depth, movement, and texture to buttress the design’s aesthetic diversity and set off the smooth, bold centerpiece. The Japanese characters ichi-go, ichi-e translate to “one time, one meeting”, a folk idiom referring to the once-in-a-lifetime nature of a moment, especially a social gathering, which can be replicated but never repeated exactly. Appreciation for this “one moment” is shown by mindful presence and sincere participation—a notion resonant with the way James Stegman approaches each one-of-a-kind piece in the James Christian Collection. Handmade to fit all 1.5 inch belt straps.
